With its breathtaking scenery and home to one of NSW’s favourite camping spots, the tiny village of Wee Jasper is like something out of a storybook, but a new chapter is about to begin with the local church coming on the market.
Since it was built in 1954, the solid brick church has seen many baptisms and weddings celebrated within its walls.
Just how loved the church was by the local community is evident in the foundation stone, which reads: “Built by the united effort of the people of this district”.
However, stretched resources means the time has come for the church to be passed on so it can have a new lease on life.
Agent George Southwell said the idyllic location surrounded by gum trees and within walking distance of the Goodradigbee River meant the church could be converted into a home or an accommodation venture.
“Wee Jasper is less than an hour from Yass and the NSW/ACT border and the area is renowned for its serenity but there’s plenty of adventure here too,” he said.
“If fishing, kayaking, camping or hiking is something you love, this is the place for you.
“Wee Jasper is also famous for its ancient limestone caves, with Carey’s Cave attracting hundreds of visitors each year.
“But if relaxing at a winery is more your thing, you can easily make your way around the Canberra District’s renowned wine region and in exciting news for the local community, the Wee Jasper Distillery is set to open in January 2022.”
While the church’s pews, altar and organ have been gifted back to the community, the church and its 721m2 of land will provide a special home for someone looking for something unique.
